A down-to-earth guide to the seven chakras

Seven energy centers, seven honest questions — the map we follow all week, in plain language.

A down-to-earth guide to the seven chakras

The chakra system comes from ancient Indian tradition: seven energy centers running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. On our retreats we use them as a map for the week — each day, one center, one theme, one set of questions to sit with. Here's the short version, in plain language.

On the Costa Rica retreat we travel this map from crown to root: we start the week with vision — what do you actually want? — and spend the rest of it grounding that vision into your body, your voice, and your everyday life. By Saturday's root practice and ending ceremony, the dream you arrived with has legs.

No experience needed. Curiosity is plenty.

Crown Sahasrara · top of head

Purpose and connection to something bigger — however you name it.

Ask yourself: What is this all for, for me?

Third Eye Ajna · between the brows

Intuition and imagination. The quiet knowing underneath all the noise.

Ask yourself: What do I already know that I keep pretending not to?

Throat Vishuddha · throat

Truth and expression. Speaking honestly, and just as much, being heard.

Ask yourself: What truth have I been swallowing?

Heart Anahata · center of chest

Love, compassion, grief, connection. The bridge between the body below and the mind above.

Ask yourself: Who or what is my heart asking me to forgive — including myself?

Solar Plexus Manipura · upper belly

Confidence and will — your inner yes and no. Boundaries live here.

Ask yourself: Where am I saying yes when I mean no?

Sacral Svadhisthana · below the navel

Pleasure, creativity, flow. The center of enjoying life rather than just managing it.

Ask yourself: When did I last do something purely because it felt good?

Root Muladhara · base of spine

Safety, stability, belonging. When it feels steady, so do you — money, home, and health worries loosen their grip.

Ask yourself: Where in my life do I feel solid ground — and where am I bracing?
